Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
An elderly man braved water cannons while protesting against the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government on Tuesday in connection with the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Mecial Centre and Hospital. BJP leaders were quick to call it the "ultimate symbol of defiance against an oppressive Mamata Banerjee regime".
Earlier in the day, a large crowd gathered around College Square in Kolkata as the ‘Nabanna Abhiyan’ protest march began on Tuesday. The rally, organized by the student platform 'Chhatra Samaj' and 'Sangrami Joutha Mancha' of state government employees, began from two locations - College Square in north Kolkata and Santragachi in Howrah.
